Bucklins meet when Rhode Island celebrates history with Gaspee Days,  a Revolutionary War landmark.

Meet Bucklins. Research Bucklin genealogy. Exchange family history, and colonial history.
at the Gaspee Parade each year---
Pawtuxet, RI (Providence area) ---
Always - each year - on the  second Saturday in June.

(For how to get there and such information, see the bottom of this page.)

What is Gaspee Days all about? History, Drama, Fun! A parade, of course, but many more activities. We visit Bucklin landmark buildings and sites, research our history, snoop in cemeteries, meet Bucklins, and revel in the fellowship of others, like us, who are enjoying the moment.

Official information on the Gaspee Days (3 days) activities.

Sample Activities

  • The parade is the centerpiece of the Gaspee Days celebration.  It looks and feels like a Hollywood film ideal of a small town parade.  That is, it is a small town neighborhood atmosphere, with people sitting on their front lawns in lawn chairs to watch the colonial history parade.  But, like a hollywod film parade, the parade is full of Revolutionary War reenactment units, bands and organizations from all sorts of places.
  • Since June, 2000, the Gaspee Parade people have invited Bucklins, Whipples, Salisburys and other Gaspee Raider descendants to participate in various ways.
  • Some years Bucklins have gathered the afternoon of the parade for getting acquainted, and an exchange of genealogical information about Bucklins.
  •  Click here to see snapshots of Bucklins and the parade.
  • The Gaspee parade days are a great time for Bucklins all over the country to get together,  build some interesting friendships; and add to our knowledge of Bucklin family history.

Generally, if there are Bucklins at the parade, they usually group behind the official reviewing stand before and then immediately after the parade but before the after parade muster performed on the field behind the official reviewing stand.   If you want to be recognized by a Bucklin, bring a small sign that says "Bucklin" and hold it up for a few moments and see if anyone appears.  If you see this logo on a flag on a pole, there are Bucklins around someplace.  Some may wear the Bucklin society patch.

  • If you want to have the fun of recreating an ancestor --- you can be on a float next year or march in the parade if you provide and wear costume of the Colonial time, and tell us of your desire at least by April 1st.  We will arrange for you to join us in having fun in being in the parade.
